No more leaks, renders or speculation. Insta360 X6 is official — and you can buy it now. After weeks of rumours, the new flagship is much more than a cosmetic refresh. X6 brings native 8K 360° video at 50fps, larger Sony sensors, 10-bit recording, an OLED display, significantly longer battery life and a new generation of replaceable lenses.

Even more importantly, most of the biggest pre-launch claims turned out to be true. And several features that the leaks did not reveal make the final camera even more interesting.

The leaks were right. Almost all of them

At the end of July, we covered the most important Insta360 X6 leaks. At the time, we made it clear that even a remarkably consistent set of reports was still unofficial.

Now we can compare those rumours with the finished product. And the sources were surprisingly accurate.

8K/50 grabs attention. The larger sensors matter even more

“8K/50” is the easiest number to put on a headline. And it genuinely matters. Moving from 30 to 50 frames per second at full 8K resolution can make a major difference for sport, motorcycles, cycling, skiing and other fast-moving scenes. Motion becomes smoother, and on a 25fps timeline the footage can be slowed down by 50% without dropping frames.

But the real foundation of X6 sits deeper inside the camera. Its two custom square 1/1.1-inch Sony sensors have a larger imaging area than those used in the X5. Insta360 positions their 360° image performance in the 1-inch-class category.

A larger sensor means more light and more image information for the camera to work with. That becomes especially important when the frame rate increases, the scene contains extreme contrast or the sun has already gone down.

PureVideo 8K and triple AI processing: night is no longer plan B

X6 does not abandon PureVideo. It pushes it further. The low-light mode now works with 360° footage at up to 8K/30fps. The camera also uses two ambient light sensors to help reduce flicker, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 analyses exposure from both lenses independently.

Processing is handled by a new 4nm Qualcomm processor together with two dedicated AI imaging chips. According to Insta360, the complete system delivers five times the processing performance of the solution used in the X5 while consuming less power during 8K/30 recording.

This is where specification-sheet numbers translate into something much simpler: more chances of coming home with usable footage when conditions are far from perfect.

One camera, three ways to shoot

One of the most interesting changes in X6 is not simply better 360° quality. The new model makes a much stronger case for becoming the only camera you need to bring with you.

Full 360°: record everything, choose the angle later

In its classic 360° mode, X6 records the entire environment in native 8K at up to 50fps. You do not have to keep the camera perfectly pointed at a person, motorcycle, trail or view. Capture the moment first and decide on the framing later.

InstaFrame 2.0: ready-to-share 4K without mandatory editing

InstaFrame 2.0 can track a person, animal or object and save a flat 4K video ready to share. At the same time, the camera can preserve an 8K 360° copy, so you get a fast finished clip without giving up the freedom to create a completely different edit later.

Flat Mode: X6 as a conventional action camera

If you do not need 360° on a particular day, X6 can record conventional flat video at up to 5K/60fps or 4K/120fps. At 5K/30, the field of view reaches as wide as 170°. One device can therefore move from full 360° capture to an intelligently tracked vlog and then to a traditional ultra-wide action-camera shot.

10-bit, I-Log and Dolby Vision. X6 goes far beyond social media

X6 records 10-bit colour, giving it access to more than 1.07 billion colours. For creators who want to take control of post-production, the I-Log profile preserves greater flexibility in highlights and shadows.

Native Dolby Vision recording is also available directly in-camera. Insta360 positions X6 as the first 360° camera to offer this capability. Maximum video bitrate reaches 240Mbps, with H.265 encoding.

This matters to two very different types of users. Beginners can get an attractive image without spending hours grading it, while more advanced creators gain considerably more room for deliberate colour work.

AI is designed to shorten the road from recording to publishing

Insta360 has been developing automated editing for years, but X6 goes further. The new PanoMind model analyses 360° footage, recognising scenes, subjects and potentially interesting moments.

AI Director can start working when the camera is connected to power. The system analyses recordings and prepares clips that appear in the Insta360 app. Auto Edit 2.0 can then handle reframing, camera movement, cuts, music and transitions.

For creators, that can mean fewer hours spent staring at footage that never gets published. And after a trip, race weekend or long ride, the editing backlog is often the biggest problem of all.

Smaller body, OLED and 47GB of storage without a card

X6 measures approximately 100 × 50 × 40mm and weighs 196g. Compared with the elongated X5 design, it is noticeably shorter and closer in proportion to a conventional action camera.

On the front is a 2.32-inch OLED display with peak brightness of 1200 nits, Always-On Display support and Full Screen Press control. That can make a real difference when using the camera in bright sunlight, on a motorcycle or while wearing gloves.

There is also 64GB of internal storage, with 47GB available to the user. Forgot your microSD card? You can still start recording. When you need more space, X6 supports UHS-I V30 or faster microSD cards.

Replaceable Lenses 2.0: one of the X5’s best ideas gets even better

The exposed lenses are both the greatest strength and the most vulnerable part of any 360° camera. That is why user-replaceable lenses were one of the most important upgrades introduced with X5.

X6 develops the concept further. According to Insta360's testing, Replaceable Lenses 2.0 are five times more scratch-resistant than the lenses used on the X5, while the replacement process has also been improved.

The camera body carries an IP68 rating and is waterproof to 20 metres without an additional housing. With the Invisible Dive Case Pro, the maximum depth extends to 60 metres.

2600mAh and 140 minutes in 8K. This leak was spot-on

The new Xtreme Battery has a capacity of 2600mAh and, according to the manufacturer's measurements, delivers up to 140 minutes of 360° recording at 8K/30fps. That is roughly 51% longer than the X5's stated endurance in the same mode.

Fast charging with a compatible 30W PPS charger takes the battery from 0 to 80% in around 24 minutes. The camera is also designed to operate in temperatures as low as -20°C.

Audio and file transfers get a major upgrade too

X6 uses new 360° microphones designed to reduce wind noise. For motorcycle recording, there is also an engine-sound enhancement mode intended to suppress rushing air while bringing the engine sound forward.

The camera can connect directly to two Insta360 Mic Air or Insta360 Mic Pro transmitters. For interviews, vlogs or two-person shoots, that can simplify the audio setup significantly.

Large files can leave the camera faster thanks to Wi-Fi 6 and USB 3.1. Insta360 quotes wireless transfer speeds of up to 100MB/s and wired transfer speeds of up to 450MB/s.

Insta360 X6 or Essentials Bundle?

This is where the two offers need to be clearly separated. The first option is the Insta360 X6 camera with the standard items included in the box. Essentials Bundle is the expanded package with additional accessories. At launch, the difference is €100.

If you mainly want the camera itself and prefer to choose mounts and accessories separately, go for the Insta360 X6 for €699.

Is the X6 worth buying?

If you are coming from an X4 or an earlier generation, X6 represents a major jump: larger sensors, higher 8K frame rates, stronger low-light performance, replaceable lenses, longer recording times and far more advanced AI tools.

For an X5 owner, the decision is more personal. X5 remains a very capable camera, but X6 offers specific upgrades the previous model does not have: 8K/50 instead of 8K/30, 120MP instead of 72MP, larger sensors, native Dolby Vision, 10-bit I-Log, internal storage, longer battery life and a much faster Flat Mode.

If you are entering the world of 360° cameras for the first time and want a camera designed to remain current for several seasons, the decision is easier. X6 is the new flagship of the X Series — and it was built to feel like one.
